While working on the design, either architecture or interior design, you sometimes need to add cornice details like the one shown below ...

Cornice elements are created using a wall sweep element, from Revit Ribbon > Build Panel > Wall Sweep
Picture
The wall sweep element uses a default profile, a simple rectangle. But if you need to create a custom profile, you'll need to follow these steps:
  • Create a new family
Picture
  • select appropriate family template, a hosted profile
Picture
  • Use line tool to create the profile shape, make sure it is a closed loop
Picture
  • Save the profile to your computer and load into the project
Picture
  • Change the wall sweep profile to your preferred profile

  • Start creating cornice elements where required

This concludes this Revit Tip of The Week. Share with your architect / interior designer friends who need to learn this tool.

When you start creating a new profile, you need a family template to start with. The folder for family templates should be available if you've installed Revit correctly.

Start by clicking Revit button at the top left corner > New > Family, then go to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit ###\Family Templates .....

If the folder is empty, then you must have a problem in your Revit installation. To download missing content, visit https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Revit-Templates-and-families-not-installed.html

I hope this helps to solve the problem. If you have further questions, send me an email at info@revit-course.com

I really need to have them .

Thanks a lot.

Any trick to downloading the profiles - doesn't prompt me for the password and won't extract.

Hi Mostafa,
I need flashing on top of the wall in my Revit model. It sounds easy. I have made the profile, all good, and it works well in normal situations. But on a wall that has a cut profile and is angled on top, it doesn't work. Do you have a profile or solution for this, please?
Regards
Azadeh
